2024 Special Focus
The 2024 Prix Voltaire was awarded to Samir Mansour of Gaza at the 34th IPA Publishers Congress in Guadalajara. Mansour, whose bookstore and publishing center have been repeatedly destroyed, continues to publish works by Palestinian authors, reaffirming his commitment to the freedom to publish.
A special posthumous award was given to the late Ukrainian author Victoria Amelina, accepted by Nobel laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk of the Center for Civil Liberties.
Kristenn Einarsson, chair of the IPA Freedom to Publish Committee, said:
"We encourage applications as a tribute to the courage of publishers who actively support freedom of expression and encourage others to do so."
The nine-strong Freedom to Publish Committee will examine entries, produce a long list, and then complete a shortlist to decide on the 2025 winner.
